"Aren't you just a kid?" Why teenagers running lawn or pressure services aren't a downgrade

I get it — hiring a high schooler to touch your house feels like a risk. Here's why it usually isn't.

I'm 17. I'm a senior in high school. I also run this business full-time on weekends and after school, and I've been at it for over a year now. Every so often a homeowner is skeptical, and that's completely fair.

What I bring

  • Real equipment. Professional soft-wash setup, not a rental
  • Insurance. $1M general liability policy
  • Chemistry knowledge. I've read the SDS sheets and I know why each solution works
  • Reputation. I live here. My customers are my neighbors. Word travels fast in both directions.

What I can't do (yet)

  • Big commercial buildings that need boom lifts
  • Multi-story roof work without a partner
  • Multi-day contract commercial work during school semesters

Why teens can be a great fit for this specific work

Pressure washing is:

  • Detail-oriented (patience matters more than experience)
  • Physically active (I'd rather be outside working than in an office)
  • Reputation-driven (one bad review would kill me — so every job matters)

I'm also cheaper than the big-name companies because my overhead is my parents' driveway. Most of that savings goes straight to you.

The honest ask

If you're on the fence, start with a small job — a driveway or a walkway. If I do it right, we'll do the house next. If I don't, you're out $150 and you tell your neighbor Charles isn't ready. Fair deal.
